Why good content is crucial to a successful site
At Label Media we’re always advising our clients about the importance of quality content on a website, in terms of improving the user experience and because of the positive effects it can have on search engine rankings. In this article I’d like to focus solely on your website and show you how you can apply it to your own site.
Engage your audience - first impressions really count
Well written copy and quality imagery is key to engaging potential customers when they arrive on your website.
The web is becoming increasingly convoluted and search engines return a wealth of results to practically any given search term. As a result, it’s imperative that you make efforts to stand out from the crowd and draw attention to genuinely interesting content more or less immediately.
Even before a visitor hits your website you need to make sure that search engine results are showing your site in it’s best light. Search result pages will often use your site’s “Title” and “Meta descriptions” as shown below:

The text in the above example has been carefully written to give the user a good idea of what they will find on the page before clicking the link. Conversely, the example below should give you an idea of what can happen if Meta information is not set up correctly:

Generally speaking, a strong homepage should consist of at least the following:
- A clear company message – what do you offer?
- Eye-catching imagery that inspires. – Set the tone of your company.
- Reassurance as to who you are – give them piece of mind regarding who they are dealing with. This can be achieved through customer quotes, accreditation or client lists.
- Updated content – An active news, blog or twitter feed can help to show that you’re attempting to engage with your clients and are keeping abreast with developments in your industry.
Finally, a clear navigation with descriptive links into the rest of the site can be key to holding onto your visitors and turning their session into a potential enquiry or sale.
